mirror mirror

Mirror Mirror is a short movie produced by Gloomy Cat Team, for the subject Direction and Realization in the University of A Coruña, during the school year 2020-21.

The message behind Mirror Mirror is deeper than it seemes. The small person is the real body of the character, while the tall, women-looking one is the way the protagonist would like to be. When the protagonist looks into the mirror and sees themselves different to their real self, with makeup on and different clothing, they get mad. However, at the end, the protagonist accepts their real selves, the one they see in their reflection, erasing their "real", tangible self of existence.

With this message we want to raise awareness, so we start loving ourselves for who we really are and not for how others want us to be.

MY WORK

For this project I worked in the narrative, art and modeling departments. In the narrative department we wrote a basic outline of the scenes, adding all the ideas we thought of during brainstorming, in order to choose only some of them for the final screenplay.

After this, I drew a concept art of the bathroom where the whole short takes place, so all of the artists would have the same vision of the space. With this done, I drew the second part of the storyboard. I also helped deciding where to place the cameras inside the scene and the duration of each shot.

In the modeling department I modeled the main part of the stage: the sink and the mirror, plus the towel holder. After modeling, I did the baking of the textures in Blender next to a couple of colleagues. Lastly, I helped putting the textures in the scene, and after that I rendered scenes 1, 3 and 14.
